Game Preview 10:Assassin's Creed

Platform Available: PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Release date: Q1 2007
Introducing an all new stealth game that combines Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia together: Assassin’s Creed. As its name implies, Assassin’s Creed’s gameplay is one that forces you to rely on stealth. Assassin’s Creed, which is set in ancient time, is more than just impressive visuals; it is a game that brings new meaning to the action genre. For example, if you see a wall with ledges, you would think that it can be climbed. And yes, the game allows you to climb it. In other words, whatever that you think you can climb, you can do it. This ejects a much needed level of realism into gameplay. A good assassin needs to kill his/her opponents silently and after which, sneak away without anyone knowing what has happened. Most importantly, a good assassin does not get caught. You would be doing the same thing in the game. To get close to your subject without any aid may be a difficult task, but fortunately, you can engage the help of others, but only if you help them first. After silencing your victim, it is time to escape quietly. Instead of hiding in shadows in Splinter Cell games, this game requires that you blend into the crowd. However, blending into the crowd must have its techniques too. Pushing through the crowd aggressively in a bid to escape quickly may not be the best solution as the villagers would be suspicious of you, and that could alert the guards. Jumping down from the building and landing in the middle of the crowd could also get you in trouble. Upon seeing something that is out of the normal, the villagers would react in a way that would alert the guards. What I am pointing out is that the villagers play a very important role in this game, instead of some mindless cut-out figures in the background. You need to generate new strategies on how to escape without detection.
