Faces of Far Cry

Perhaps somebody should start counting the number of versions of Far Cry games in the market right now. There is the original Far Cry for the PC that was released a few years ago, Far Cry Instincts for the Xbox, Far Cry Instincts Predator for the Xbox 360 and the forthcoming Far Cry for the Wii, which features an all new storyline, new characters and even new weapons! So, are these different versions of Far Cry replications of each other or are they different in some way? Powerplay gets the facts right.

Far Cry (PC)

This is the first version of FarCry that was released in 2004. You play as Jack Craver, whose story began under mysterious circumstances. Jack has previously been caught and now, he needs to escape from his captors. From here onwards, you are given the responsibility of handling his fate. FarCry boasts a variety of weapons, and Jack will even possess some kind of super-human powers later in the game. The graphics are simply stunning and are unmatched at the time when it was released.

Far Cry Instincts (Xbox)

Due to the constraints of the Xbox hardware, the developers have to shrink down the game environments. This FarCry version is a little different from the original PC version because you will no longer have as many alternative paths to victory as the PC version has. Otherwise, this version has the same storyline, characters and weapons as the PC version. The graphics are still as beautiful.

Far Cry Instincts Predator (Xbox 360)

This version of FarCry is a great leap from the Xbox version. Not only does it boast better graphics, but also some new chapters and the ones from FarCry: Instincts. The limitations of the Xbox are gone and so, there are now more alternative paths. It is also believe that the artificial intelligence has been improved and the Xbox 360 version can display more enemies on the screen at any given point of time, making for a more satisfying and challenging game.

Far Cry Vengeance (Wii)
[Screen is rumored, not official]

This upcoming Wii version of Far Cry will be launching along with the Wii console, so it just means that this game is going to be released in another few weeks time. Besides a fresh storyline, characters and weapons, this Wii version would also, without doubt, feature refined controls. The Wii-mote is best suited for FPS games, and therefore, a riveting gameplay experience is to be expected. As I mentioned earlier, the storyline is a new one, but yes, I must also mention that it is exclusive to the Wii. Far Cry fans, listen up, you have to get this version to continue the Far Cry story. Here I am, crossing my fingers that the Wii version would include all the previous chapters from all the previous Far Cry games, in addition to the new storyline. If the Wii needs another good launch game, Far Cry Vengeance has the best chance. Ubisoft is keeping quiet, though.

Did you notice it? Observe the box covers of the PC, Xbox and Xbox 360 versions. The PC box cover shows Jack wading through the water, the Xbox box cover shows Jack climbing up the cliff, and the Xbox 360 box cover shows Jack already on the cliff. There is a sequence of events! Can you uncover the mystery box cover of the Wii version of Far Cry, which has yet to be shown to the public? Far Cry is really mysterious -- in practically every way possible.
